Parliament buildings were shut down yesterday evening, Wednesday, January 11, at 6.30pm following the discovery of a fire. The fire erupted at the Continental House- the building that houses Members’ of Parliament offices, forcing the National Assembly to be shut down to allow engineers to sort out an electric fault believed to have caused the fire.
Speaker Justin Muturi told reporters that the fire was detected by Parliamentary staff.
They were on routine duty at Continental Hose and detected the smell of smoke as it burned wood. Upon keen observation, the staff realized that a small part of the wooden sauna roof which is located on the basement floor had caught fire,” said Muturi.
